‘SNL’: Watch Jack White Perform ‘Derecho Demonico,’ ‘G.O.D. And The Broken Ribs’

White, on SNL as musical guest for the sixth time, performs songs he released the previous day

Jack White made his sixth musical guest appearance on Saturday Night Live, performing two new songs, “Derecho Demonico” and “G.O.D. And The Broken Ribs,” which he shared Friday.

“Derecho Demonico” translates to “demonic right,” and in “G.O.D. And The Broken Ribs,” White again inverts religious themes by imagining Adam and Eve in a post-apocalyptic Garden of Eden.

“Welcome to the end of the world/ Nobody left but one boy and one girl and one other,” he sings. “But you know we can’t live like a sister and brother/ They’re gonna make you a mother now.”

White, 50, most recently performed on SNL in February 2023, playing tracks from 2022’s Fear of the Dawn and his LP from the same year, Entering Heaven Alive. His prior solo appearances on the late night show were in 2012, 2018, and October 2020, when he played a guitar designed for him by Eddie Van Halen, who had died earlier that week. White debuted on SNL in 2002 as part of the White Stripes.

White’s latest album is 2024’s No Name, which Rolling Stone‘s Jon Dolan called “some of the best, most lively garage-blues crunch he’s given us in many many moons, with just the right amount of eccentricity thrown in.”

White is scheduled for a run of European shows beginning in May; his next U.S. performance is in September at the Borderland Festival outside Buffalo, New York.
