Fans think Greta Van Fleet might have split up after cryptic post: “Thanks for the wild ride”

Greta Van Fleet fans are speculating that the band might have split up after a cryptic social media post.

The Michigan rock band have been largely inactive in recent years, with their most recent live shows in support of their third album ‘Starcatcher’ having taken place in the summer of 2024.

Last night (May 4), they released a compilation montage of their videos and live shows from across their career, with the clip concluding with the phrase: “Thanks for the wild rise. Love, Josh, Jake, Sam and Daniel.”

There is no further explanation for the post, which is their first since July last year, when they celebrated the second anniversary of ‘Starcatcher’. See the Instagram post here:

Immediately, the post prompted some alarm among Greta Van Fleet fans, with some replying to the post with comments such as, “What do you mean. No like what do u mean.”

“This better not be a break up announcement,” wrote one, while another questioned “why are we wording things in a way that might give one heart palpitations of the bad sort”.

There are alternative theories for the motivation of the post, with one reply observing that “each section of the video contains the first single drop from each album”, before speculating, “I bet we’re getting new music!”

In 2023, frontman Josh Kiszka said that it felt like a “huge weight” had been lifted after he came out as part of the LGBTQ+ community. He had written on his Instagram earlier in the summer that he had been “in a loving, same-sex relationship with my partner for the past eight years”, adding that it was “important to me to share publicly”.

“Everything had been met with love and acceptance and humility and respect, and that was a huge wave of reassurance that things are moving in the right direction,” he said. “As a performer and as an entertainer, a huge weight was lifted. Because ultimately as an artist or just as a person, we all want to be understood to some degree.”

Josh’s brother Jake also popped up in Bruce Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere as the guitarist in a local band the Boss joins in with in a New Jersey club. Dave Cobb, who produced ‘Starcatcher’, was also a producer on the film, and he also hired Bobby Emmett from Jack White’s band for the scene.
