Travis Scott Debuts New Single ‘4×4’ at College Football National Championship Game

Scott will donate all proceeds from his “4×4” merchandise to a California Fire Relief fund

After slyly hinting at a new project over the weekend, Travis Scott debuted “4×4” at the College Football Playoff National Championship. Scott rapped on the roof of Atlanta’s Mercedes Benz Stadium Sunday, alongside a uniformed marching band. Scott stomped to the brass and synth fused trap song, as the band swung their instruments in unison. One trombone player blew flames into the air. Scott also released “4×4” related merchandise, with 100 percent proceeds donated to Direct Relief’s California Fire Relief.

Earlier this month, songwriter Victory Boyd filed a copyright infringement lawsuit against Scott, SZA, and Future, alleging the trio’s song “Telekinesis” used elements of her song 2019 track “Like the Way it Sounds” without her permission. The lawsuit claims that Boyd shared the 2019 single with Kanye West, and recorded a song titled “Ultrasounds” with Scott. West’s version of her 2019 single appeared on SoundCloud but was never released.

In October, the BET Hip Hop Awards presented the I Am Hip Hop Award to Scott. The “Fe!n” rapper thanked his family, including his two children, Stormi and Aire.

“I come from this generation where they considered us nowhere near like ‘hip-hop,’ and every day, I try and push the sound,” Scott said as he accepted his award. “And coming in as a producer, nobody knew what the fuck I was trying to do, but I always had this idea. I had this vision, still to this day, to take the sound and just to take things to the next level, and I’m just so glad that we made it this far.”
