Rising star will release her debut album ‘American Hero’ on June 28
Towa Bird is gearing up to release her debut album American Hero this June — but before she does, she’s got a new single to tide everyone over. The singer and guitar player has dropped “Sorry Sorry” ahead of her new LP.
On the catchy, bubbly tune, the singer details how “tears and tequila made the secrets come out” with a friend who wants to be more than friends. On the chorus, however, Bird is worried about losing this person as her friend. After a tense car ride, she says “sorry sorry” for all the things left unsaid. She teased the song on Instagram earlier this week, posting a photo of an answering machine and a short clip singing along to the audio.

The Filipino-British singer started releasing music last year and ended up on Renée Rapp’s tour as an opening act alongside Alexander23. She released a live EP that was recorded during her sets on that tour at New York’s Terminal 5. It featured a cover of Blur’s “Song 2.”
American Hero will be released on June 28th. When speaking with NME last November about the upcoming album, Bird discussed its title. “When I think of those two words together, I think of a 6’4 white guy, Captain America – blonde, blue-eyed,” she joked. “That’s nothing that I represent as an androgynous queer person. I am the anti-American hero, but because I’m an immigrant, that almost makes me an American. I’m sharing parts of my life I’ve never told anyone before; because I’m being vulnerable, I’m almost a hero.”
