Teenager dies following medical episode at Kendal Calling Festival

A teenage girl died at Kendal Calling festival in the early hours of Sunday morning (August 2) , police have said.

Cumbria Police have said the 17-year-old suffered a medical episode at around 2.00am on Sunday and was pronounced dead at the scene, despite interventions from emergency responders.

In a news update shared online, they added that officers were looking into the circumstances and wanted to speak to anyone who was in the area of the Calling Out tent and the Big Wheel around the time of the girl’s death.

A spokesperson said: “Officers are particularly keen to speak with a group of women who alerted first responders to the girl after becoming concerned for her welfare.”

They said the girl’s family had been informed and were being supported by specialist officers. The force asked people not to speculate, saying it could have a “significant impact” on the family and friends involved.

“We would ask that the investigation be allowed to take its course.”

A Kendal Calling spokesperson said the festival team was supporting authorities with their investigation.

“As soon as the individual became unwell, they were immediately attended to by our on-site security and medical teams,” they said, per The Independent. “Paramedics and medical personnel provided emergency care at the scene and did everything they could to help.”

The spokesperson added the team was “deeply saddened” by the teenager’s death and extended “deepest sympathy” to her loved ones.

Anyone with information is urged to contact police online here, or by calling 101 and quoting incident number 26 of August 2 2026. Alternatively, you can contact Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
