SZA has promised fans that an updated version of Lana, featuring fresh mixes and new songs, will arrive next Monday, Jan. 6, 2025.
The musician released the long-awaited Lana — at once a new album, but also technically an expansion upon 2022’s SOS — on Dec. 20. But not only was its arrival that day plagued by slight delays, a few days later, SZA told fans that after “listening w a clear mind” she felt the need to tweak the project.
Those fixes and additions will likely be what drops next week. “Just got word all updated Mixes and new songs will be added Jan 6th when the label comes back from holiday,” SZA posted Monday morning, Dec. 30. “Sorry they can’t do it any sooner. Just wanted to keep y’all in the loop. Thank y’all for your patience.”
SZA previously teased three unreleased Lana tracks when she shared a screenshot of a text message conversation with her now-former manager, Terrence “Punch” Henderson. In the text, SZA asked Punch about including the songs “Take You Down,” “PSA,” and “Open Arms,” none of which made the initial Lana drop (even though SZA had already teased “Take You Down” on Instagram way back in March).
SZA started talking about expanding SOS almost immediately after the album first dropped in Dec. 2022. In an interview with Rolling Stone in 2023, she confirmed the deluxe edition would be called Lana and said it was inspired by Lil Uzi Vert’s LUV vs. the World 2, the deluxe edition of their album, Eternal Atake.
When Lana was finally ready for release, SZA enlisted the help of Ben Stiller to announce the project. The actor later appeared in the music video for Lana’s lead single, “Drive,” directed by Bradley J. Calder.
The re-release of Lana next week will kick off what should be a big year for SZA. She’s set to spend much of the spring and summer alongside Kendrick Lamar on the Grand National stadium tour, which kicks off in April and runs through June.
