See Bradley Cooper Join Pearl Jam to Sing ‘Maybe It’s Time’ at BottleRock

Actor and Eddie Vedder, who inspired A Star Is Born’s Jackson Maine character, deliver acoustic rendition of Jason Isbell-penned track

Pearl Jam brought out an unlikely guest during the band’s Saturday headlining gig at Napa Valley’s BottleRock as Bradley Cooper — Jackson Maine himself — came onstage to perform “Maybe It’s Time” from his A Star Is Born.

With Eddie Vedder on acoustic guitar, Cooper dusted off his Maine persona to deliver a tender rendition of the Jason Isbell-penned track, which Vedder himself had previously covered solo at a Tempe, Arizona music festival in 2019.

The pairing Saturday was notable as Cooper has gone on record as saying his Jackson Maine was inspired in part by the Pearl Jam singer. In an interview leading up to the release of the Oscar-nominated film, Cooper revealed he leaned on Vedder for insight into the rock star persona when scripting the Maine character, asking “9,000 questions” of the Pearl Jam singer

“[Vedder] gave me minor, little things that only musicians know about what to do, just aesthetically and the inner workings,” Cooper said; the actor-director also said Vedder discouraged Cooper from remaking A Star Is Born. “Bro, don’t do that,” Vedder told him.

“Maybe It’s Time” marked the first time Cooper and Vedder performed together, but it wasn’t the last: Cooper later joined Pearl Jam for their set-ending rendition of Neil Young’s “Rockin’ in the Free World.”
