Sam Fender & Olivia Dean’s ‘Rein Me In’ Grabs Record-Extending 22nd Week as U.K. No. 1

Sam Fender and Olivia Dean’s “Rein Me In” has earned a 22nd non-consecutive week at the summit of the U.K.’s Official Singles Chart published Aug. 21.

The song is currently the longest-running No. 1 of all time in the U.K., surpassing the previous record held by Frankie Lane, who achieved 18 weeks back in 1953 with “I Believe.”

The 22-week streak for “Rein Me In” has seen a number of long-standing records tumble. It became the longest-running No. 1 of the 21st century and the longest-running ever by a British act after 16 weeks, surpassing Drake’s “One Dance” (2016) and Wet Wet Wet’s “Love Is All Around” (1995), respectively.

Speaking to Billboard this week, Capitol Music Group’ CEO Tom March — who signed Fender to Polydor — discussed the song’s ongoing success and his predictions for the Geordie-born act to break the U.S. “Rein Me In” is up to a new peak of No. 50 on the Billboard Hot 100 following the pair’s performance at Lollapalooza.

“Artists build in a different way. My job is to understand how the artist wants to move and build a campaign and work with them, so they achieve their dreams,” March said. “They do it in a way that’s comfortable for them and a way that they want to do it. The song’s been one of the biggest songs on TikTok in America for the last three or four months. He’s building a whole new audience. It’s a steady pace.”

“Dai Dai” by Shakira and Burna Boy holds its position at No. 2, followed by Ella Langley’s “Choosin’ Texas” (No. 3) and “Movin’ to the Sun” by Hugel, Imael Angel and Ultra Naté.

Stella Lefty’s “Boston” jumps four places to No. 4 to give her a new career high, while Sheffield DJ Silva Bumpa’s “On 2nite” lifts one spot to No. 9, also a career best.

Tame Impala and Steve Lacy continue to enjoy boosts following synchs in Spider-Man: Brand New Day with “Loser” (No. 11) and “Oh yeah?” (No. 18), respectively.
