Noah Kahan Clarifies Misheard NSFW Lyrics: ‘Not Suck Your Mom’

Kahan jokingly corrected lewd lyrics from tracks “Haircut,” “23,” and “Stick Season”

Singer-songwriter Noah Kahan has an urgent message for some of his fans: They are singing his songs wrong. In a completely cheeky bit, Kahan fact-checked some misheard vulgarities in a tweet on July 22. It’s all in good fun though, since he ended his statewide memo with “But honestly sing from whatever place your mind takes you to.”

For his viral hit “Stick Season,” he noted that the lyric is “saw your mom,” not “suck your mom.” And while some fans are singing a cruder lyric on “23,” he clarified that he’s singing “beat your ass into morning” and not “eat your …” well, you get the point.

For the coda, he pinpoints a phrase in The Great Divide track “Haircut”: the song goes “glad you got your act cleaned”; it’s not a locution about using a bidet (though in another recent tweet he pleaded with his fans to use the bathroom at his concerts).

Earlier this month, Kahan headlined the inaugural year of Rolling Stone‘s Stateside Festival on July 4. He’s in the middle of a sold-out stadium tour to celebrate his fourth studio album, The Great Divide, which arrived in April. Due to severe weather in New York City, Kahan had to cancel one of his shows at Citi Field, but was able to play the second night as planned.

Noah Kahan: Out of Body, a documentary chronicling his rise to fame amid mental health struggles, arrived at the end of March. It’s available to watch on Netflix.

“You find out who you are in the moments when you’re alone,” he told Rolling Stone in his June cover story. “In the moments things are quiet, and you don’t have 30,000 people screaming that they love you. I needed to be brought back down to earth, and I think the process, as hard as it was, really did bring me back.”
