Lynks shares “accidental” England World Cup parody banger ‘Kick The Ball!’

Lynks has dropped an “accidental” England World Cup parody banger called ‘Kick The Ball!’ – tune in below.

The new track arrives today (Wednesday June 17), ahead of England going head to head against Croatia later tonight as they kick off Group L at the Dallas Stadium (AT&T Stadium) in Arlington, Texas – home of the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys.

Lynks shared a teaser of the track on social media last week, quipping that they may have “accidentally written the best football song of all time”.

Titled ‘Kick The Ball!”, the song sounds like it is made to be chanted by crowds and jokingly explains, in the most simple terms, what the England team need to do to secure victory at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Kick the ball into the goal/ That’s the game, it’s called football/ Kick the ball into the goal/ That’s the net between those poles,” the chorus goes.

It also features some other unforgettable lyrics, like: “Three lions are bound to win, because lions are stronger than human men”, and “Come on men… and some women/ It’s time to show the world that no one kicks like Britain/ Except for all the times we tried to win and we didn’t.”

“One day I just had the idea to write a football song from the POV of someone who knows nothing about football,” Lynks shared. “I also thought there was something funny about me, like, ‘reverse pinkwashing’. As in, instead of some straight artist being like “I LOVE THE GAYS” for pride month, a gay artist doing “I LOVE FOOTBALL” for straight pride (aka the World Cup).”

The artist continued: “I think it’s basically a joke that’s gotten a bit out of hand… I posted the idea to my story and my DMs blew up with people begging me to do it. That was 12 days ago. Since then I wrote and produced the song, got it up on streaming, shot a music video… It’s been a bit mad!”

The England v Croatia game is set to kick off at 9pm BST tonight, and coverage starts on ITV1 from 8pm. The match comes as Croatia shattered England’s World Cup dreams eight years ago at the semi-finals in Russia – and also denied them a place at Euro 2008.

In other World Cup music news, the official soundtrack album for the 2026 FIFA World Cup was announced earlier this month, and it features The Rolling Stones, Shakira, Stormzy and more.

More football anthems have come from other artists too, including football writer and musician JJ Bull, who lit up social media with his parody LCD Soundsystem-inspired track ‘The Very Unofficial Scotland World Cup Song’.

Others writing songs to celebrate Scotland making it to the World Cup – and going on to defeat Haiti 1–0 over the weekend – include Belle & Sebastian who dropped their heartfelt ‘It Only Takes One Lion’, and Susan Boyle, Franz Ferdinand and Irn Bru who teamed up for ‘We’re Made In Scotland From Girders‘.

Baddiel, Skinner & Lightning Seeds have announced a 30th anniversary re-release of ‘Three Lions’ to celebrate England heading back to the World Cup, and John Barnes has revealed the audio clips from 1990, showing Paul ‘Gazza’ Gascoigne and Peter Beardsley attempting his iconic rap for ‘World in Motion’.
