Lucy Dacus’ Hot Masc Convention Convenes in ‘Best Guess’ Video

Cara Delevingne, Towa Bird, Naomi McPherson, and more appear in the video for the latest single from the musician’s forthcoming studio album, Forever Is a Feeling

Lucy Dacus went on a social media hunt in January for “hot mascs,” or people who are smooth and suave enough to pretend to be hot mascs, to appear in the music video for her new single “Best Guess.” The submissions in response to her TikTok open call flowed in and as the “Best Guess” video arrives, the Lucy Ducus Hot Masc Convention has convened.

“Best Guess” features appearances from Naomi McPherson, Cara Delevingne, Towa Bird, and E.R. Fightmaster. But most of the people featured in the visual were fans Dacus found online. “Thank you for your creative vision in masc representation and the invitation to be included,” one participant named Gio wrote on Instagram. “I’ve never felt so seen, heard, honored, respected and loved as I did on this day, especially as an older masc. Queer masc representation was elevated and my fellow mascs who shared this day will forever be my family. Love y’all.”

Dacus first premiered “Best Guess” during her special guest spot at Julien Baker concert in October. “As if I needed more reason to get my heart rate up, I decided that I want to play a new song,” she said at the time. “Happy Lesbian Day. This song is dedicated to lesbians.” The record will appear on Dacus’ upcoming studio album Forever Is a Feeling, out March 28. It follows the release of lead singles “Ankles” and “Limerence.”

Shortly after officially beginning the album roll out, Dacus pledged $10,000 in donations to GoFundMe campaigns for trans surgeries. “If trans people wanna comment surgery gofundmes, I’m gonna give away 10k in $500 increments until it’s gone, & if other people wanna scroll through and make donations, please do,” the singer-songwriter wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “The government will never be the source of our validation or protection, we have to do it ourselves.”
