Lil Wayne to perform virtual gig in mobile game ‘Clash Royale’

Lil Wayne is set to perform a virtual gig in mobile strategy game Clash Royale this week ahead of the Super Bowl.

Clash Royale is a free-to-play online mobile game that brings together elements of real-time strategy, tower defence, multiplayer battle arena and collectible card games. The spin-off from Clash Of Clans first launched in 2016 and has been downloaded more than 1.5billion times, earning developers Supercell more than $4billion in revenue.

It’s now been announced that Lil Wayne is set to perform in the game this weekend.

Set to premiere on Friday (February 6), five-time GRAMMY winner Lil Wayne will “bring his love for sports, music, performing, and the culture to the Clash Royale Arena with a special rendition of his hit single, ‘A Milli.’ Inspired by [the Super Bowl], the show will kick off as players open Clash Royale and prepare for battle,” explains a press release.

“Music, sports, and gaming all in one place – y’all know how much I love being at the center of the culture,” said Lil Wayne in a statement. “I’m turning the Clash Royale arena into the most lit concert of the week, tap in February 6th to see what we got in store for y’all.”

To watch The Clash Royale Halftime Show, open Clash Royale from 5pm GMT on Friday.

Lil Wayne isn’t the only musician performing a gaming Super Bowl show this weekend. Teddy Swims, Luke Combs, Stephen Wilson Jr, Gavin Adcock and LaRussell will take to the stage at San Francisco’s Chase Center on Friday for Madden Bowl.

“Getting the invite from EA Sports to be a part of the Madden Bowl at the biggest football game in the world – the Super Bowl, was a no-brainer. I can’t wait and I’m still holding out hope my Panthers will be there too,” said Combs.

As for the Super Bowl, Charlie Puth will be singing the national anthem ahead of the match while Bad Bunny will be delivering the Halftime show. Brandi Carlile will sing ‘America the Beautiful’ during the event and Coco Jones will perform ‘Lift Every Voice And Sing’.
