Yesterday, Oasis were among the nominees for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame‘s Class of 2024. Liam Gallagher, however, was not impressed by the potential honor.
After Oasis fan account shared a list of the nominees, who also include Mariah Carey, Outkast, Billy Idol, Soundgarden, and the White Stripes, Gallagher weighed in in typical fashion. “RNR hall of fame is for WANKERS,” Gallagher wrote on X. Another fan replied asking “What are you gonna do if you win?” Gallagher responded, “Obv go and say it’s the best thing EVER.”
This isn’t the first time Gallagher has taken aim at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Last year, when Oasis was nominated for the first time, the musician wrote on social media, “F*** the Rock n Roll hall of fame its full of BUMBACLARTS LG. You know it I don’t need some wank award by some geriatric in a cowboy hat.” He also told fans not to bother voting because “as much as it’s appreciated it’s all a load of bollox.”
Last year, he told The Sunday Times that the Rock Hall didn’t seem to reflect rock and hall. “As much as I love Mariah Carey and all that, I want to say: do me a favor and fuck off,” he said. “It’s like putting me in the rap hall of fame, and I don’t want to be part of anything that mentally disturbed. Besides, I’ve done more for rock n’ roll than half of them clowns on that board, so it’s all a load of bollocks.”
The nominees for the Rock Hall are Mariah Carey, Phish, Outkast, Oasis, Billy Idol, Cyndi Lauper, Joy Division/New Order, Soundgarden, the White Stripes, Joe Cocker, Bad Company, Black Crowes, Chubby Checker, and Maná. The inductees will be announced in late April along with the names of the acts receiving the Musical Influence Award, the Musical Excellence Award, and the Ahmet Ertegun Non-Performer Award. The annual ceremony will take place in Los Angeles in the fall.
Oasis are set to hit the road this summer and fall on their highly-anticipated reunion tour. Although details on the shows are scarce, Gallagher has confirmed that he and his brother, Noel, have a new album in the can and there will be no rumored documentary about the reunion. He also recently responded to a fan asking about a rumored setlist containing beloved cuts across their career and culminating in classics like “Don’t Look Back in Anger,” “Live Forever,” and “Champagne Supernova,” saying “It’s not far off.”
The Britpop band will launch the tour this summer, kicking off with two nights in Cardiff, Wales on July 4. They’ll play several dates in the U.K. — including Manchester and London — before heading to North America in late August.
