Jason Derulo receives gifts from PETA after pulling out of SeaWorld performance

Jason Derulo has received gifts from animal rights organisation PETA after announcing he was to cancel his SeaWorld performance.

The singer was supposed to perform at the theme park on April 21, but apparently pulled out thanks to PETA. According to a press statement, PETA claimed that SeaWorld “sexually abuses dolphins and whales by forcibly impregnating them—and that more than 40 orcas have died, many prematurely, in SeaWorld’s tanks”.

Upon hearing Derulo’s cancellation, PETA reportedly sent him “a “SeaWorld Sucks” T-shirt, dolphin-shaped vegan fruit snacks, and a stuffed toy dolphin for his son.”

PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman further added: “Jason Derulo made the right call in refusing to endorse SeaWorld’s body count with a performance. People will continue to turn their backs on SeaWorld as long as it relies on animal exploitation, which is why PETA is calling on the park to move the dolphins and whales it holds captive to seaside sanctuaries.”

Country musician Chris Young will perform in Derulo’s place.

Recently, Derulo was accused of signing a singer to a record deal and expecting sex in a harassment lawsuit. Singer Emaza Gibson filed the lawsuit against Jason Derulo last October, claiming quid pro quo sexual harassment, breach of contract and intimidation and violence in violation of the Ralph Civil Rights Act, amongst other complaints.

In response, Derulo denied the allegations via his rep, writing: “These claims are completely false and hurtful. I stand against all forms of harassment and remain committed to supporting people chasing their dreams. I strive to live my life in a positively-impacting way, so I am deeply offended by these defamatory allegations.”
