De La Soul Tap Special Guests, Prep Rare Tunes for ‘Art Official Intelligence Radio’

De La Soul’s Posdnuos and Maseo will dive into their own history on a special new five-part series, Art Official Intelligence Radio with De La Soul. The show premieres tomorrow, March 5, with new episodes airing Tuesdays and Thursdays on Apple Music 1 at 2 p.m. ET/11 a.m. PT.

Art Official Intelligence Radio will feature Posdnuos and Maseo retracing their story, discussing the legacy and influence of De La Soul, honoring late bandmate Dave “Trugoy the Dove” Jolicoeur, and sharing a mix of De La Soul rarities, demos, and hits during the “DemoListen” segment. Special guests will appear throughout the show, including Tyler, the Creator, Questlove, Common, Talib Kweli, Pharoahe Monch, DJ Prince Paul, Rapsody, and Dave Chappelle. “Having this show is an extension to a dream already fulfilled,” Posdnuos said in a statement. “So, from here on out everything is truly a blessing beyond our expectations.”

Tomorrow’s series premiere of Art Official Intelligence Radio will feature special guest Queen Latifah. During the show, Posdnuos recalls how De La Soul almost ended up starring in The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, while Latifah raves about the group’s pioneering album skits — “Y’all showed the world how to do that” — and celebrates Posdnuos and Maseo for upholding the trio’s legacy after Trugoy’s death last year.

“I told you, you’re so durable to me,” Latifah said. “That’s the word I used. And you fly missing man formation, so you got to carry Dave… And you do carry him. You carry him on these live shows. You carry him where you go.”

Last week, De La Soul shared a special 35th anniversary edition of their classic debut, 3 Feet High and Rising, featuring six previously unreleased songs and demos. Just last year, the hip-hop outfit’s six albums finally made it to streaming services after years in digital purgatory due to a variety of legal issues, including uncleared samples.
