Cody Johnson earns his sixth top 10 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart as “Take Me Back (Leave Me There)” rises three spots to No. 10 on the Sept. 19-dated survey. The song drew 7.5 million official U.S. streams (up 19%) Sept. 4-10, according to Luminate.
Written by Kelly Archer, Troy Cartwright and Pete Good, the song is from Johnson’s Banks of the Trinity, his 16-track 10th studio album, which became his sixth Top Country Albums top 10 when it debuted at No. 8 in June.
“Take Me Back” first caught fire on TikTok over the summer, fueled by Johnson’s a cappella performance clips and a trend in which couples have used the song to look back on how long they had been together. Billboard reported Aug. 19 that the song’s U.S. on-demand streams had jumped 150% over five weeks as it began climbing the charts.
The song’s latest surge coincides with Johnson’s four CMA Awards nominations, announced Sept. 10, for entertainer of the year, male artist, single and video. The latter two are for “The Fall,” which reached No. 7 on Hot Country Songs in April and led Country Airplay for a week in May, becoming the latest of his three No. 1s at the format.
‘Boots’ On
Kane Brown’s “Boots,” featuring Shania Twain, opens at No. 36 on Hot Country Songs with 2.5 million first-week streams and 1,000 sold. A male answer to Twain’s 1995 breakthrough hit “Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under,” it becomes Brown’s 47th entry on the chart and Twain’s 35th.
‘Here’ They Are
Plus, Mumford & Sons, in their first Hot Country Songs appearance, and Chris Stapleton bow at No. 45 with “Here” (2.2 million streams). The track opens the band’s sixth studio album, Prizefighter, released in February, and is now being promoted to country radio. In July, it topped Billboard’s Adult Alternative Airplay chart for two weeks.
