Britney Spears was all smiles in a rare social media post featuring the singer sharing a sweet moment with her youngest son, Jayden James Federline, 19, on Wednesday (Jan. 7). The undated Instagram snap shows Spears, wearing a floor-length pink sleeveless dress, standing behind Jayden, who towers over his mom as he takes the selfie while flashing a smile that matches the pop star’s happy look.

The caption didn’t offer much more context, as it only consisted of a unicorn emoji.
Spears, who has said she is effectively retired from the music business, has been mostly out of the public eye for the past few years, though she continues to post her signature dancing videos, inspirational messages and memes on her socials — as well as some recent sultry vintage Brad Pitt pics.
Back in late December she uploaded a pointed message to her family on her feeds after it seemed like they celebrated Christmas together, but without her. On Dec. 28, Spears posted a snap of a Christmas tree along with what sounded like a rebuke of her “beautiful family,” who she wished a “merry late Christmas.”
The rest of the caption appeared to drip with sarcasm about what she described as some long-running pain tied to their apparent estrangement. “Merry late Christmas to my beautiful family who have never disrespected me, harmed me, ever done anything completely unacceptable or caused unbelievable trauma, the kind you can’t fix,” Spears wrote. “To my dear sweet innocent family… so so sorry I was busy this Christmas but I will definitely show up and surprise you soon.”
It seemed to be a rejoinder to a festive snap shared earlier that week by younger sister Jamie Lynn Spears that showed Jamie celebrating Christmas with her husband Jamie Watson, daughters Maddie, 17, and Ivey, 7, as well as their mother Lynne Spears and Britney’s older son Sean Preston Federline, 20.
At the time, People reported that Spears celebrated Christmas Day with Jayden, with a source revealing, “Britney had a fun time celebrating Christmas with Jayden. It’s been such a special holiday.” In December 2024, Spears praised her “genius” son Jayden during an emotional Christmas reunion in which she kvelled about how they were “like twins” and rejoiced after saying she hadn’t seen him in nearly three years.
Spears shares her two sons with ex-husband Kevin Federline, who she lashed out at in October after the former dancer released his tell-all memoir, You Thought You Knew, in which he claimed that one of the couple’s sons allegedly woke up one night to find Spears standing in the doorway holding a knife and that the pop star drank wine while pregnant and did cocaine while she was breastfeeding.”
Without naming Federline, Spears bashed the book for attempting to spin her pain for “profit,” asking “Why is HE SO ANGRY” and lambasting Federline for “constantly gaslighting” her. Spears has been estranged from some members of her family since the end of her restrictive, 13-year conservatorship in 2021, a legal arrangement in which her father and lawyer were appointed to oversee and control both her personal and financial affairs. Since its termination, Spears has spoken out several times about the difficult emotional toll of that period and the strain it put on her familial relationships.
Spears and Federline were married in September 2004 and divorced in July 2007 and after their split Federline gained custody of the boys, who reportedly relocated with him to Hawaii in 2023.
