Both Members of Dawes’ Homes Destroyed in Los Angeles Wildfires

Both members of the folk-rock band Dawes were among the thousands who lost their homes in the devastating wildfires sweeping through the Los Angeles area.

Mandy Moore, who is married to Dawes’ Taylor Goldsmith, previously revealed that much of their Altadena house and Goldsmith’s home recording studio were destroyed in the fires.

“Miraculously, the main part of our house is still standing. For now. It’s not livable but mostly intact,” she said on social media. “We lost Taylor and griffin’s studio with every instrument and piece of equipment they’ve ever owned. We lost our garage and back house.”

In a follow-up social media post Thursday, Moore revealed that Taylor’s brother and Dawes band mate Griffin Goldsmith and his pregnant wife, who lived within the same neighborhood, also lost their home in the fire.

“Yesterday, my brother-in-law and sister-in-law Griff & Kit lost their home and everything they own in the Eaton Fire,” Moore wrote on Instagram. “With their first baby on the way in a matter of weeks, they need our support now more than ever. Griff is a touring musician and also lost his entire arsenal of drums/percussion he uses to make a living.”

Moore also shared a GoFundMe to assist Griffin’s family.

The wildfires around Los Angeles County have become one of the most devastating natural disasters to ever hit the city, burning more than 35,000 acres in and around the city, destroying over 10,000 homes and buildings, and forcing nearly 200,000 people and counting to evacuate.

Aside from the resources available to everyone in the area, those in the music industry have some music-specific resources potentially available for them as well.

Most prominently, there’s MusiCares, the Recording Academy’s non-profit established to assist the music community in times of crisis. The organization has already told those in the music industry in need of relief to reach out.  Late Thursday, MusiCares launched the Los Angeles Fire Relief Effort, pledging $1 million. Entertainment Community Fund also helps provide resources and relief to those in the entertainment business in times of emergency. “If you’re a part of the entertainment industry and have been impacted by the California Fires, the Fund is here to help through support, connection to resources and emergency financial assistance,” the organization said on Thursday.

The Sweet Relief Music Fund also confirmed this week that it’s accepting applications and taking donations over the wildfires. That fund is intended to help pay for destroyed music equipment, as well as any potential medical bills related to the fires.
