Rod Wave’s concert at Inglewood, California’s Intuit Dome was canceled Wednesday hours before showtime due to the wildfires sweeping across the Los Angeles area.
“The health and safety of our fans and employees will remain the top priority,” the arena, which just two days earlier hosted a WWE Raw taping, said Wednesday of the cancelation. “Tickets will be refunded at the original point of purchase.”
The rapper added on Instagram, “Concert tonight cancelled by Gov. officials. I hope everyone stays safe.”
The wildfires also forced the postponement of the Los Angeles Kings’ Wednesday night game at Crypto.com Arena “in light of the devastating effects of the wildfires.” However, as of press time, the Los Angeles Lakers’ home game Thursday night versus the Charlotte Hornets at Crypto.com Arena is still scheduled to proceed.
The devastating fires in Los Angeles — which have so far killed at least five people and destroyed thousands of homes and businesses — have also forced several television shows and entertainment industry events to shut down.
Jimmy Kimmel Live nixed its taping for Wednesday night, while CBS’ After Midnight, hosted by Taylor Tomlinson, is off for the rest of the week. A pair of red carpet premieres — for the Robbie Williams biopic Better Man and the new Max TV show The Pitt — were also canceled.
The Critics Choice Awards, which were supposed to take place this Sunday, Jan. 12, were postponed and rescheduled for Jan. 26. Academy Awards voting was also extended by two days, pushing the nominations announcement from Friday, January 15 to Sunday, January 17.
The fires have displaced more than 130,000 people, destroyed thousands of homes, businesses, and other structures, and killed at least five people, the Los Angeles Times reports. The Palisades fire has burned through nearly 12,000 acres west of Los Angeles, while the Eaton fire has burned over 10,000 acres east of the city. A new fire, called the Sunset Fire by officials, in the Hollywood Hills broke out Thursday, but Reuters reports that one has largely been contained.
The blazes have been fueled by raging windstorms, with gusts reaching speeds of 100 miles per hour, as well as swaths of dry vegetation.
