Bartees Strange Delivers an Interstate Love Song With New Single ‘Lie 95’

Singer-songwriter’s latest track is “about searching for love all across the Northeast corridor (I-95)”

Bartees Strange pens a literal “interstate love song” on the singer-songwriter’s new single “Lie 95.”

“This song is about searching for love all across the Northeast corridor (I-95) — my universe,” Strange said of the track in a statement. “I’m thinking of Love in a broad way: partners, friends, and community. This one’s for the highway…and everything I meet through it.”

Strange paired the single — his original new song of 2024 following “Big Glow” off the I Saw the TV Glow soundtrack — with a Vincent Martell & Jordan Phelps-directed video where two people (both played by Strange) embark on a road trip that leaves a trail of trashed motel rooms in its wake.

“I been searching/For someone to love/Now we’re folded/And I can’t enough,” Strange sings on the chorus. “I feel focused/On lifting you up.”

“Lie 95” was co-produced by Strange and notcharles along with longtime creative collaborator Graham Richman, and features additional vocals courtesy of Charlene Gibbs and singer Kacy Hill, who Rolling Stone also recently profiled.

Strange has kept busy since the release of his acclaimed 2022 sophomore LP Farm to Table, touring with the likes of the National, Clairo, and boygenius. The singer also contributed to the Jack Antonoff-curated soundtrack for The New Look, providing a rendition of “You Always Hurt the Ones You Love.”
