William Shatner leaks that he and his metal band are on the line-up for Coachella 2027

William Shatner appears to have revealed that he and his new heavy metal band The *uckers will perform at Coachella 2027.

The 95-year-old Star Trek star is preparing to appear at Riot Fest in Chicago next month, where he will preview material from his forthcoming album with the new group, ‘What The F Is Heavy Metal’.

Now, in an interview with CNN, Shatner has leaked the band’s apparent booking for next year’s Coachella, despite the fact that no artists have been officially confirmed for the California festival at this stage.

Explaining his new venture into metal, he said: “It isn’t so much, ‘When do I come in?’, but I’ve got to feel the music and then come in with the lyrics. It’s all about passion.”

He then referenced The *uckers’ slot at Riot Fest, before adding that they would also be playing “the one in the desert” next spring, which his daughter Melanie Shatner Gretsch confirmed was Coachella.

When interviewer Elex Michaelson responded with shock, Shatner confirmed that the group have been booked to play a 30-minute set.

Coachella will return to the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California over two weekends, running from April 9 to 11 and April 16 to 18. Shatner will have turned 96 by the time of the event.

Before then, The *uckers, who also include guitarist and musical director Marcus Nand, guitarist Britt Lightning, bassist Phil Soussan and drummer Fred Aching, will make their live debut at Riot Fest in Chicago’s Douglass Park on Sunday September 20.

Last month, Shatner shared the outrageous list of rider demands for the show, including an introductory film created by GWAR, “many” fire-breathers, a DeLorean to carry him to the stage, four feet of Polish sausage and an assortment of adoptable puppies.

As well as the metal project, Shatner has also announced a separate spoken-word album titled ‘Love & Other Mysteries’, produced by Brad Paisley, which will be released on August 21 via Loaded Goat Records and UMG.

Despite his advancing years, Shatner has continued to enjoy a busy working schedule. He became the oldest person to go into space as part of the Blue Origin rocket flight in 2021, while he also appeared at the Saturn Awards last February to receive their lifetime achievement award, where he spoke about his affinity for space exploration.
