Wife of Weezer bassist Scott Shriner shot by police, booked for attempted murder

Jillian Shriner, the wife of Weezer bassist Scott Shriner, was shot by police in Los Angeles – she has since been booked for attempted murder.

Per Billboard, Shriner – an author who publishes under the pen name Jillian Lauren – was involved in a police shoot-out that followed an unrelated car chase incident.

A preliminary statement by the Los Angeles Police Department revealed that, on Tuesday afternoon (April 8), officers responded to a call for backup over a hit-and-run incident, as three suspects had then fled into a residential neighbourhood.

Officers followed a lead on one of the suspects – seen running into a private residence. Before the suspect in question was apprehended, a woman was spotted by officers in the yard of a neighbouring home with a handgun. The full LAPD statement claims the woman pointed the weapon at the officers.

“After repeated commands to drop the weapon were ignored, an OIS [officer-involved shooting] occurred,” the LAPD stated on X/Twitter. “The woman, later confirmed to be a resident, was struck by gunfire & taken to the hospital for treatment.”

The woman was later identified as Shriner, who fled into her home. When she exited the residence, she was taken into custody and treated for a “non-life-threatening gunshot wound”. No officers involved in the shooting were injured, nor any nearby residents.

A nine-millimeter handgun was later recovered from Shriner’s residence, per the statement, which added that it was determined Shriner was not involved in the hit-and-run incident. However, she was later absentee booked for attempted murder. The incident is currently under investigation. NME has reached out to Shriner’s representatives for comment.

As an author, Shriner wrote and issued Behold The Monster: Confronting America’s Most Prolific Serial Killer, her investigation into the murders committed by Samuel Little, who died while incarcerated in 2020. The book was published a year later.

Last month (March 23), Shriner posted on Instagram that she had been recovering from “two back to back surgeries”, which included a hysterectomy. Shriner and her husband Scott have two adopted sons.

Earlier this week (April 6), it was reported that Weezer and Ed Sheeran had been added to the line-up of Coachella 2025, set to take place starting this weekend. The band will also embark on a UK and Europe tour later this year.
