Pair have been collaborating with one another for more than a decade
Drugdealer (Michael Collins) and Weyes Blood (Natalie Mering) continued their longstanding collaborative history with gorgeous new song “Real Thing.” Their last single together was “Honey” off Drugdealer’s 2019 album Raw Honey.
The sweet track celebrates the joy of falling in love. “Think I found someone who loves me/Somebody that’s so proud that they found me/Someone who loves me in every way,” Mering sings. “Finally found a love who sees me/Somebody who makes my life so easy/It’s the real thing.”
The red-tinted video was directed by James Manson. The pair are seen in a studio, with Mering in the vocal booth and Collins behind the board.

The song has been two years in the making, starting with Collins meeting Parisian producer Max Baby. After he figured out the right chord progression, he sent it to Mering. “Immediately I realized that it was the perfect thing to show Nat, who I had been wanting to collaborate with again for years,” Collins said in a statement. “After that we started working on it via multiple trips back and forth across the U.S., and it just became one of my favorite things we’ve ever done.”
Drugdealer and Weyes Blood have been working together since 2014, when they met in Oakland. Before “Honey,” they released the 2016 track “Suddenly,” off Drugdealer’s 2016 album The End of Comedy. Both musicians released their most recent albums in 2022: Weyes Blood’s And In The Darkness, Hearts Aglow and Drugdealer’s Hiding in Plain Sight.
