Water From Your Eyes announce new album ‘It’s A Beautiful Place’ with captivating single ‘Life Signs’

Water From Your Eyes have announced their sixth album ‘It’s A Beautiful Place’ – listen to new single ‘Life Signs’ below.

The Chicago indie-pop duo – comprising Nate Amos and Rachel Brown – are due to release the 10-track record on August 22 (pre-order/pre-save here). It’ll follow on from their Matador debut and critical breakout record, 2023’s ‘Everyone’s Crushed’.

“The band recorded the bulk of ‘It’s A Beautiful Place’ last summer, just as they have every other WFYE release: in Amos’s bedroom, under the watchful eye of a tattered Robin Williams poster from the Mork & Mindy era,” a description reads.

Amos joked: “Basically, Robin is like a silent member of Water From Your Eyes.”

This time around, the duo largely shaped their new material “around the dynamics of a full-blooded live group”.

Continuing, Amos explained: “When you’re playing with a band you tend to write with one in mind – this was the first time I wrote anything for WFYE imagining us playing anywhere bigger than a basement.”

Water From Your Eyes have previewed the forthcoming LP with a captivating, nu-metal-inspired track called ‘Life Signs’.

It is accompanied by a Brown-directed video, starring the duo as a rotating cast of TV characters. The pair also portray a version of themselves watching the scenes play out on screen over a lifetime.

Brown said: “Television has always been my biggest passion, and this video was mostly conceived from my desire to experiment with the tropes of genre. But I also think the medium lends itself to the idea of fitting an infinite amount of universes into a little box you can keep in your living room.

“I wanted the video to encapsulate as many worlds as the song does and to express an entire lifetime within a short few minutes.” Tune in above.

The full tracklist for Water From Yours Eyes’ ‘It’s A Beautiful Place’ is:

1. ‘One Small Step’
2. ‘Life Signs’
3. ‘Nights In Armor’

The band’s previous full-length effort, ‘Everyone’s Crushed’, landed at Number 28 on NME‘s 50 best albums of 2023 list. It was hailed as “a record of invigorating pop songs, given greater heft thanks to a much-talked-about festival run over the summer”, adding: “Here, they made music to reflect their own core idiosyncrasies, and were embraced with open arms by a whole new audience.”

Earlier that year, the duo spoke to NME about how finishing the LP’s standout track ‘Barley’ and landing their new record deal were the first signs that their trajectory as a band was finally on the up.

“Now that things are actually happening for our band, all the work that we’ve put in finally feels justified,” said Amos at the time. “This is the right thing for us to be doing together. There were a couple of moments where I was like, ‘Why are we working so hard on this?’ I didn’t know–.”

Brown interjected: “But that’s not true! The reason we kept doing this was because it was so much fun for both of us, regardless of the outcome.”
