Last week (May 14), System Of A Down performed at the Autódromo de Interlagos in São Paulo, Brazil to an estimated crowd of 75,000 fans. The show, like all of their other South American concerts, sold out within minutes.

However, footage of the May 14 show is now going viral on social media after the band uploaded two clips of the concert, filmed by a drone. The clips see System Of A Down performing to a see of fans, with numerous sections of the audience lit up by glowing red flares and countless circle pits.

Guitarist Daron Malakian said in one clip: “If you noticed, we don’t have pyro on the stage. But our fans bring the fucking fire!”

The scene looks like something out of a combat zone, prompting Daron Malakian to write on social media: “This is not a war zone, this is not a riot, this is a System Of A Down style Rock & Roll concert in Brazil!”

The clips were also shared on social media, with some fans arguing that it was footage from Lady Gaga’s recent record-breaking Copacabana Beach concert (where she performed to over 2million people) before quickly being provided with footage from System Of A Down’s gig.

The viral footage comes after the band kicked off their highly anticipated South American tour with a number of rarities last month.

System Of A Down’s shows for 2025 began in Colombia in late April and was followed by a second show three days later in Peru. Both gigs got fans talking due to their “drastically” different setlists from usual, which included them breaking out some songs for the first time in decades. This was something bassist Shavo Odadjian hinted at in an interview in February.

After the run of South American tour dates, SOAD will continue the tour with shows across North America in August and September. All of these dates first time since 2017 that the band are performing back-to-back shows for an extended period of time, having only played one or two shows a year in recent times.

The dates come amid lots of speculation that the band may be working on a new album – their first since 2005’s ‘Mezmerize’ and ‘Hypnotize’.

Last October, Tankian said that a new System album would be a “fresh start in a brand new way”, but later revealed he “became very passive” during the writing and recording process for their last two albums.

Then, Speaking to NME in December Odadjian revealed that although the members are “always talking” and will “never break up”, he thinks the hopes of new music are still slim.
