Watch Tori Amos cover ‘Falling Slowly’ in tribute to Glen Hansard

Tori Amos has paid tribute to the late Glen Hansard by covering The Swell Season’s ‘Falling Slowly’ in Boston – watch footage below.

Hansard, the frontman of The Frames and one half of The Swell Season, died following a motorcycle crash in Dublin in Wednesday (July 29). He was 56 years old.

A number of major names in the music industry have paid tribute to him in recent days, including Bruce Springsteen, Bono and Billie Eilish, and now Amos has performed a musical dedication to him during a show at the Leader Bank Pavilion in Boston, Massachusetts on Friday night (July 31).

She played a touching, tender piano rendition of the song that Hansard wrote alongside his Swell Season bandmate and Once co-star Markéta Irglová. The two picked up the Academy Award for Best Original Song for the track in 2008.

Amos is currently touring in support of her latest album ‘In Times Of Dragons’, which was released in May, and she used another recent show to pay tribute to Sinéad O’Connor by playing ‘Three Babies’ and ‘I Am Stretched On Your Grave’.

Hansard’s family recently announced details of a public wake and funeral for the musician. He will lie in repose at the Baroque Chapel at the Irish Museum of Modern Art in Dublin on Monday (August 3), before a public funeral at St Patrick’s Cathedral the following afternoon.

Music at the service will be provided by Hansard’s friends and family, while a public address system will be installed outside the cathedral due to the limited capacity inside. It will also be broadcast on RTÉ News and RIP.ie.

Hansard started his career as a busker on the streets of Dublin before forming The Frames, who released six studio albums and topped the Irish charts with 2004’s ‘Burn The Maps’.

Footage emerged this week of Hansard’s final live performance, which took place at The Wren’s Nest pub in Chapelizod just hours before his death. He also spoke recently on his powerful friendship with Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder, while Warren Ellis shared a touching story about the time Hansard gifted him a Gibson guitar.
