All three members of The xx have reunited on stage during Jamie xx’s set at LIDO Festival in London – watch footage below.
The brand-new festival in the capital’s Victoria Park included an entire day’s line-up curated by Jamie xx on Saturday (June 7), with the producer himself taking a prominent spot on the main stage.
It was during that set that he was joined on stage by Romy – who also performed her own set at the festival – and Oliver Sim, completing the line-up of the Mercury-winning South London band.
They marked the reunion by playing ‘Waited All Night’, the single from Jamie’s 2024 album ‘In Waves’ that is the first track all three have appeared on together since 2017. Watch Romy and Sim sing the track with Jamie at the decks in fan-captured footage here:
“We love you, London!” Romy said as the three hugged at the end of the song.
Elsewhere in the set, Sim appeared in the crowd while singing a version of ‘GMT’, from his 2022 solo album ‘Hideous Bastard’ – watch that here:
Jamie revealed last summer that the band were working on a new album together and said they were “having a good time” while doing so. “it is like The Avengers!” he said. “We’ve said it ourselves. It’s always so nice to get back together with them.” In March, they gave a further update by sharing a pic of the three of them sitting in a studio together.
Speaking to NME on the red carpet at the 2024 BRIT Awards about the new music, Romy also shared: “We’re just keeping it really open and we’re up for trying new things, but it sounds like us. That’s all I can say right now.”
“We’ve learned a lot from our different solo projects and it’s cool to learn from each other again,” she added. “We grew up together and we had a lot of experiences, but to then have time apart and learn new skills, get new musical ideas and experiences and compare them… it’s been a healthy break.”
The long-awaited record will be the trio’s first since their 2017 album ‘I See You’.
Elsewhere at LIDO Festival, on Friday (June 6), Massive Attack played a powerful headline set that was introduced by the actor and pro-Palestinian activist Khalid Abdalla, who made an impassioned speech calling for peace in the Middle East and an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.
