The film was first announced back in February, with Variety reporting at the time that it was a road trip comedy produced by all three band members and directed by Lee Kirk. The band then put out a casting call for the film, asking for “punks, emo, hardcore, alternative and rocker young adults”.

Now, they’ve shared the first teaser, which sees the band – called the Analog Dogs and played by Mason Thames, Kylr Coffman, and Ryan Foust – set out to drive from Kansas to California to meet their heroes.

Inspired by their early touring days, the film follows three friends who embark on a road trip in the mistaken belief that they have secured a Green Day support slot at a New Year’s Eve show.

The band’s music is set to feature prominently in the film, with the new trailer set mostly to their ‘American Idiot’ track, ‘Holiday’. Check it out below.

The cast includes Jenna Fischer, Angela Kinsey, Fred Armisen, Bobby Lee, McKenna Grace, Keen Ruffalo, Ignacio Diaz-Silverio, and Sean Gunn.

New Year’s Rev will have its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 12.

In other Green Day news, the band recently poked fun at Will Smith for allegedly using AI to generate images of fans in a new video of his tour, and led chants of “fuck Donald Trump” during a recent show in Belgium on the Fourth of July.

Before then, Armstrong made headlines when he jokingly kicked a fan off stage when he started playing Oasis’ ‘Wonderwall’ instead of ‘Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life)’.

Elsewhere, they recently played ‘Haushinka’ live for the first time in nearly three decades.
