The Kevin Parker-fronted band played a three-song set at Cherry Lane Theatre in New York City for the US entertainment company’s music series, Sound Check.

They showcased their new album ‘Deadbeat’ by delivering full band live renditions of recent singles ‘Dracula’ and ‘Loser’ – both of which were debuted on Tiny Desk last week. Following the former, Parker admitted to having sung a “wrong lyric” in one of the verses.

Tame Impala kicked off the session by playing the piano-led, house-influenced ‘Deadbeat’ opener ‘My Old Ways’ for the very first time. The session was directed by The Iron Claw filmmaker Sean Durkin.

Tame Impala will embark on their US ‘Deadbeat’ tour next week. A UK and European run of shows is due to follow next spring, including a show at The O2 in London on May 7. Find any remaining tickets here.

In a three-star review of ‘Deadbeat’, NME said that the “lyrical inertia bogs down Kevin Parker’s psych-rave meditation on adulthood”.

Elsewhere, Parker has responded to critics claiming he’s gone “commercial” with his new music to “make money”. He also recently revealed that his hit and fan favourite ‘Elephant’ “almost didn’t make” it onto 2012’s ‘Lonerism’.

In other news, the musician and producer has admitted to singing “gibberish” during Tame Impala’s performance of ‘Borderline’ on SNL in 2019. “I didn’t have lyrics ready for the song,” he explained when talking to Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1.
