Watch Shelia E., Gloria Estefan Perform ‘Bemba Colorá’ on ‘Kimmel’

The collaborative song comes off the percussionist’s recent salsa album, Bailar

Gloria Estefan joined Sheila E. for a dynamic performance of her recent song “Bemba Colorá” on Jimmy Kimmel Live. The duo appeared on the late-night show alongside a live band and a group of back-up singers as they shared vocals on the lively track.

“Bemba Colorá” comes off Sheila E.’s salsa LP, Bailar, which dropped last April. The album features numerous special guests, including Estefan, Rubén Blades, Debi Nova, and Gilberto Santa Rosa. It marks the queen of percussion’s first salsa effort.

Sheila E. is up for two Grammy nominations this year. Bailar is nominated for Best Tropical Latin Album while “Bemba Colorá” is up for “Best Global Music Performance.” The musician has been nominated several times in the past, but has yet to take home an award.

A salsa album has long been on Sheila E.’s “bucket list,” as she told Rolling Stone last year. “I grew up playing Latin jazz with my father, but salsa music is a whole other thing,” she said. “And it’s very strict about the parts that need to be played specifically. And if you play them wrong, you shouldn’t play it at all. So it’s very demanding, and I really wanted it to be something that people would listen to and go, wow, this is amazing.”

In the same interview, Sheila E. confirmed she has another album finished with her band, Sheila E and the E Train, and she’s planning two more: a gospel album and a Christmas album.
