Nirvana reunited for the second time in two weeks for Saturday Night Live‘s SNL 50: The Homecoming concert, this time with Post Malone on vocals. Check out the footage below.

The iconic band’s surviving members Krist Novoselic, Dave Grohl and Pat Smear made their first surprise appearance at the FireAid benefit concert in January, where they teamed up with St. Vincent, Kim Gordon, Joan Jett and Grohl’s daughter Violet to perform a string of greatest hits.
Now, they’ve returned once more in honour of the 50th anniversary celebrations for SNL, which took place last night (February 14). It came after Grohl was announced as a performer earlier this month, though it wasn’t clear if he would be appearing with Nirvana, Foo Fighters or solo.
This time, their lead vocalist was Post Malone, who previously performed a 15-song set of Nirvana covers during 2020’s lockdown, alongside Blink-182’s Travis Barker. At the time, Grohl praised Malone‘s performance, calling it “super cool”.
The lineup was introduced by Adam Sandler, before they went on to play ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’. Check it out below.

Celebrations will continue on Sunday (February 16) with the SNL 50 Anniversary Special, for which Paul McCartney, Sabrina Carpenter, Paul Simon have already been announced.
SNL has been celebrating its 50th anniversary, launching its 50th season in late September. Among the content planned and already rolled out for its 50th anniversary are the feature film Saturday Night, a Questlove-helmed documentary focusing on the programming’s music and more.
In a three-star review of Saturday Night, Jordan Bassett wrote for NME: “The film lacks narrative drive and genuine comedy, then. As it barrels towards its inevitable conclusion, though, a funny thing happens. Out of the chaos emerges a rather inspiring ode to making it up as you go along, living in the moment, saying ‘yes’ and hoping for the best.
“You may wind up with a “half-assed rat-fuck donkey show”, as Dafoe fabulously seethes at one point, or you may create history. It’s this that – just about – makes Saturday Night worth watching. As any improv comedian could tell you: stick with it and you’ll stumble upon gold.”
