Watch newly unearthed footage of legendary gig where Daft Punk joined Phoenix at Madison Square Garden

New footage of Daft Punk performing with Phoenix at a legendary concert at Madison Square Garden has been unearthed.

The 2010 show famously saw the masked duo join their French counterparts onstage while they were playing ‘If I Ever Feel Better’ as part of their encore.

They then joined forces for ‘Harder Better Faster Stronger’, ‘Around The World’ and Phoenix’s ‘1901’.

Now, Phoenix have shared newly unearthed footage on Instagram of the performance which includes footage from the soundcheck ahead of the show, before it cuts to the encore. You can view it below.

That same year Daft Punk scored the soundtrack to Tron: Legacy for the sequel to the 1982 Disney movie Tron.

Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel were also previously in a band called Darlin’ with Phoenix guitarist Laurent Brancowitz. They formed under the name of the famous 1967 Beach Boys single in 1992 but split after six months.

Daft Punk confirmed their break-up after a career spanning over 28 years in 2021.

The pair have since spoken about the breakup in recent years, with Bangalter admitting he was “relieved” over the way that the band ended.

“The question I ask more myself is why we did end it rather than how it could last for so long,” he said. “It’s a lot like a story or mini saga – sometimes there’s a TV show that has a special place in people’s hearts and it keeps that place, and it runs for one, two, three, four, five, sometimes 10 seasons.

Speaking in an interview with Phoenix in NME in 2022, when asked about the split Brancowitz said: “I didn’t like the move.”

Elsewhere, Daft Punk’s chart-topping third record is set to be reissued as a remix album on vinyl for the first time ever on November 28. Justice, Soulwax, SebastiAN, Basement Jaxx, The Juan Maclean and many more will have their takes on Daft Punk recorded on the vinyl – pre-order yours here.

Phoenix meanwhile, recently shared their original demo of ‘Too Young’ from their celebrated debut album, ‘United’.
