Watch Meek Mill Join Philly Rapper Fridayy in His Video For ‘Proud of Me’

The heart-rending song is a single from the MC’s newly released debut album

Philly rapper Fridayy debuted the music for his single “Proud of Me” with Meek Mill today. The four-minute visual was shot in the rappers’ hometown, giving the reflective track a sentimental feel. “Proud of Me” is a single from Fridayy’s new album, Some Days I’m Good, Some Days I’m Not, which was released today.

The video begins with solo shots of Fridayy interspersed with photos of his late father, who casts a heavy presence over Some Days I’m Good, Some Day I’m Not. It was Fridayy’s father who introduced him to music through the church and instruments such as piano, trumpet, and bass.

“In the past two years, so much happened in my life that it would’ve been hard to just make a short album,” Fridayy says of the 21-track project. “I kept telling stories. It’s crazy how at the highest point of your life something can bring you down so low. I’d been winning for a whole year, but it doesn’t feel the same because my dad passed when I was on a world tour.”

That tone carries into “Proud of Me,” a doleful reflection on the toll of loss. “A million dollars on me, but girl, it ain’t what it seems,” he croons while leading a throng of friends, including Meek, up a Philly block. Meek begins his verse in a dark back alley next to Fridayy, rhyming, “Scared to show up to your grave ’cause I might try to dig it out” while reflecting on the trauma of riding past the block where his father was murdered. It’s a pensive track, but the video has triumphant moments, such as a shot of Meek’s grandmother smiling as he raps about buying her a home.

On X, Meek called the heartfelt verse his “favorite feature” he’s ever done. Meek is one of many features on Fridayy’s debut album, including Kehlani, Wale, and Compa artist Joé Dwet Filé.
