Watch Little Simz cut loose and have fun on new single ‘Young’

Little Simz has released a brand new single and accompanying video for ‘Young’ – take a look below.

The rapper’s new single is taken from the upcoming album ‘Lotus’. The record is expected to drop on June 6, and you can pre-order/pre-save it here.

Set against a grooving bass riff, ‘Young’ sees Little Simz inhabit a character with a playfully cheeky accent: “I’m 20 something young with my priorities straight (Yeah) / I need to buy a booze and I need to buy a draw“.

The video for ‘Young’ also sees director Dave Myers join forces once again since 2022’s ‘Gorilla’. In the video, Simz, dressed as a delightfully rude elderly lady, is seen flipping the bird to strangers in the street and joining a party full of punks in a pub. After getting forcefully ejected upon smashing a glass bottle on someone’s head, she raises one final middle finger to the camera before going off to play her bass.

Speaking about the video and single, Simz said: “I was able to tap into a character. That was fun for me. It’s just a moment of light heartedness.”

The tracklist for ‘Lotus’ was recently revealed, with huge names like Michael Kiwanuka, Moses Sumney, Sampha, Obongjayar, Wretch 32, Moonchild Sanelly, Yussef Dayes and more set to feature.

Little Simz was also recently announced to be curating the 2025 edition of Meltdown Festival at London’s Southbank Centre. She will be performing a one-off orchestral show, while The Streets, Lola Young, Ghetts, Jon Batiste and Little Dragon’s Yukimi will also appear across the 11-day event.

She will then be playing her biggest ever headline shows this October, at Manchester’s Co-Op Live and London’s O2. Find any remaining tickets here.

Simz is also soon to embark on an intimate record store tour across the country, including stops in Bristol, Liverpool and Kingston. Check out the full tour below and get remaining tickets here:

Little Simz’s UK record store shows are:

JUNE
1 – Birmingham, XOYO X Rough Trade
2 – Liverpool, Rough Trade store
3 – Nottingham, The Level X Rough Trade
9 – Bristol, Crane X Rough Trade
10 – Kingston, Pryzm X Banquet Records

‘Lotus’ will serve as the follow-up to 2022’s ‘NO THANK YOU’, which NME rated four stars.

“‘NO THANK YOU’s quiet, understated release provides parallels to Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Untitled Unmastered’ release from 2016, a series of leftovers from his ‘To Pimp A Butterfly’ sessions,” it read. “That too had a certain looseness and freedom to the tracks, and, much like Lamar, a clear-headed Simz has something to say urgently. The case for Simz to be recognised as a true modern great has only been strengthened with this release.”
