Earlier this month, Netflix released the first block of episodes for the music competition Building The Band. The competition series filmed over the summer in 2024 and features Liam Payne, The Pussycat Dolls’ Nicole Scherzinger and Kelly Rowland of Destiny’s Child as judges, while AJ McLean hosts.
The series was in post-production when Liam Payne tragically died in October after a fatal fall from a third-floor balcony at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The Argentine prosecutor’s office later revealed that the 31-year-old’s cause of death was due to multiple traumas and internal and external bleeding.
Ahead of the show’s second block of episodes being released later today (July 23), Netflix has shared a clip of the former One Director star singing and dancing along to one of the group’s hit songs ‘What Makes You Beautiful’ with the audience while filming the music competition.
In the clip, the song starts playing as fans in the audience begin getting excited, singing and jumping along to the track. Liam Payne, who was sat in his judging throne smiles, before jumping off his chair to sing along with the audience. Later, he walked into the crowd to sing up-close-and-personal with a group of fans.
“That was so fun,” he said as he sat back down onto his chair. Watch the clip below.

Just days before Liam Payne’s death, it was reported that his anticipated sophomore solo album had been delayed. His last release was the March 2024 single ‘Teardrops’.
As for Building The Band, Netflix shared in a press release that his family “reviewed the series” and supported it being released as planned – it was reported in January that it would still be going ahead. The first four episodes of the show were released on Netflix on July 9, with episodes five to seven issued on July 16.
The final group of episodes (eight through 10), will be out later today (July 23).
In other news, Backstreet Boys’ AJ McLean, who hosted Building The Band for Netflix, shared that he had gotten close with Payne over the course of its filming, and that the late singer had previewed music from his sophomore solo album prior to his tragic death.
“I thought it was a great body of work. And I hope that the world and that the fans get to hear it somewhere down the road. It’s beautiful, beautiful music,” McLean said of Payne’s unreleased material.
Whether Payne’s estate plan to release the material as a posthumous album have yet to be announced.
