The Scottish singer-songwriter topped the bill at the London concert series last night (July 11), storming through fan-favourites like ‘Before You Go’, ‘Someone You Loved and ‘Bruises’.

He later brought out surprise guest Fender, who he said had done “some incredible things” of late, like “becoming the longest-running British number one of all time, [playing] stadiums around the world, most importantly, [being] a dear, dear close friend of mine.”

The two launched into Fender and Olivia Dean‘s smash hit ‘Rein Me In’, which, as Capaldi noted, recently made history by becoming the longest-running British Number One single of all time.

The two artists officially released the collaborative version of the ‘People Watching’ track last summer, after they performed it live together at Fender’s shows in London and Newcastle – and fans are now clamouring for a Capaldi version to be officially released.

Lewis Capaldi played:

‘Hollywood’
‘Grace’
‘Heavenly Kind of State of Mind’
‘Wish You the Best’
‘Love the Hell Out of You’
‘Almost’
‘Forever’
‘Bruises’
‘Pointless’
‘Something in the Heavens’
‘Rein Me In’ (with Sam Fender)
‘Before You Go’
‘Fade’
‘The Day That I Die’
‘Hold Me While You Wait’
‘Forget Me’
Encore:
‘Have You Ever Seen The Rain?’ (Creedence Clearwater Revival cover)
‘Survive’
‘Someone You Loved’

Earlier this year, Capaldi opened up about his friendship with Fender and Fontaines D.C. frontman Grian Chatten, saying they both inspired him to take more creative risks.

“[Fender and Chatten] talk about music as art – and I know this sounds fucking mental coming from someone who is also a musician – but they really fucking care about everything they’re putting out,” he said,

“It is so inspiring. What they have instilled in me is to really take time [in the studio], and start properly giving a fuck about what I’m saying and what the songs sound like.”

The group also jokingly refer to themselves as “The Syndicate”, and last summer were spotted hanging out together in Mayo, Ireland, and even went on a 90-minute cruise together along the Galway-Mayo border.

He’ll return to the Great Oak Stage tonight (July 12) for a second show, with the massive outdoor gigs forming part of his UK and Ireland headline tour this summer, and you can find any remaining tickets here.
