Japanese Breakfast covered Gorillaz’ ‘On Melancholy Hill’ during their Coachella 2025 set – check out footage below.
Michelle Zauner and band played at the Outdoor Theatre at the California festival on Saturday (April 12), airing a number of songs from their latest album ‘For Melancholy Brunettes (& Sad Women)’, which was released last month.
Halfway through the set, they played a version of the 2010 Gorillaz single, joined by Ginger Root, who is their current opening act. Christabel Lin, a touring member of Japanese Breakfast, played the track’s distinctive riff on electric violin. Watch footage below.

Reviewing ‘For Melancholy Brunettes (& Sad Women)’, NME awarded the record four stars and said: “Michelle Zauner’s deliciously nuanced songwriting shines on the indie rockers’ bold, beautifully realised fourth album.”
The band are due to hit the road for a world tour which will include stops in Austin, Atlanta, Charlotte, Detroit, Boston, Brooklyn and more before heading over to Europe and the UK. The tour will close out with a return to the US and wrap up at The Armory in Minneapolis on September 9. In other Coachella news, Lady Gaga performed a theatrical five-act set and A. G. Cook brought out Danny Brown, performing a host of tracks before remixing Charli XCX’s ‘Party 4 U’.
Charli XCX brought out Lorde, Billie Eilish and Troye Sivan for her highly-awaited performance, and there was controversy during Kneecap‘s set after they led an anti-Margaret Thatcher chant, with fans reporting the online stream had cut out shortly after.
Travis Scott played an eye-catching headline show on Saturday, while Lola Young struggled through a sickness bug to deliver her debut at the festival.
