Watch Halsey Rap a Freestyle Verse to Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Swimming Pools’: ‘Open Your Mind and Listen to Me, Kendrick’

Halsey has dropped a few bars to Kendrick Lamar‘s “Swimming Pools (Drank),” and it’s going viral.

On Wednesday (Nov. 19), Halsey took some time out of her Back to Badlands Tour to playfully spit a few bars set to K-Dot’s 2012 hit. Halsey pleaded with Kendrick to keep an open mind before diving in.

“OK, now open your mind and listen to me, Kendrick,” she spits while sitting outside under some palm trees. “I am your conscience; if you don’t hear me, then you will be history, Kendrick/ I know that you’re nauseous right now and I’m hopin’ to lead you to victory, Kendrick.”

The instrumental Halsey used was created by rapper Dax, who has been cultivating a viral rap verse challenge with his song “Joker.” Fans appeared supportive in the comments, with one writing, “Plsssss do a rap verse/song in this lower register omg,” and another writing, “This is hard.”

Halsey recently spit a few bars during a performance in Los Angeles when she ran through her “Tokyo Narita” freestyle. However, prior to performing the song, she took a moment to distance herself from the artist formerly known as Kanye West, whom she references in the Lido-assisted 2016 track. “So we laid down on the floor next to our brand-new bed/Just so we could listen closer to this new Kanye West,” she raps on the song.

“Alright, we’re gonna do this one, but it’s f— Kanye, OK?” the singer clarified before kicking off the track.
