The set on Friday (April 11) marked one of the first live performances from the original five members of the Go-Go’s – singer Belinda Carlisle, lead guitarist Charlotte Caffey, rhythm guitarist Jane Wiedlin, bassist Kathy Valentine and drummer Gina Schock – in seven years.

They sailed through a setlist of their biggest hits, including ‘Vacation’, ‘Our Lips Are Sealed’, ‘Skidmarks on My Heart’ and ‘Lust to Love’. Later in their Coachella set, the iconic band interpolated the chorus of Chappell Roan’s ‘Hot to Go!’ into their own 1981 hit ‘We Got The Beat’.

Armstrong, who is set to headline the Californian festival with Green Day later today (April 12) and next Saturday (April 19), then surprised fans by joining the band for a performance of their 1984 hit single ‘Head Over Heels’. Check it out below.

The Go-Go’s core lineup last performed live together in 2018. They did announce a reunion tour for 2020, but it was cancelled due to the pandemic. They later played a brief run of shows in 2021 and 2022 to celebrate their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, but Schock was unable to participate due to an injury.

Meanwhile, the Californian festival will see also see performances from the likes of Lady Gaga, Post Malone, Travis Scott, Missy Elliott, Charli XCX, Megan Thee Stallion and more over the two weekends.

In other Green Day news, earlier this week, they shared a surprise new single called ‘Smash It Like Belushi’, taken from the newly announced deluxe reissue of ‘Saviors‘, their Number One album that was released in 2024.

In a four star review of ‘Saviors, NME said: “There’s also some serendipity in the band hitting the road to celebrate 30 years of ‘Dookie’ and 20 years of ‘American Idiot’ later this summer. Not only does ‘Saviors’ spiritually bridge the gap between the two, but it uses the palette of the best of the band to tell us something else.”

‘Saviors (édition de luxe)’ will be released on May 23 and you can pre-order it here.

Coachella 2024 was headlined by Lana Del Rey, Doja Cat and Tyler, The Creator and also saw the return of No Doubt and more. Check out NME‘s overall recap of the 2024 festival here.
