Watch fan attack DJ Paul Kalkbrenner during Elrow Town set in Madrid

German DJ Paul Kalkbrenner was attacked by a fan during his set at Elrow Town festival in Madrid this weekend.

The producer was playing a set on the Hallucinarium Stage at the electronic music festival at the Recinto Ferial in the Spanish capital on Thursday (May 1), sharing a bill with the likes of Andres Campo and Paco Osuna.

During the set, a topless man climbed over the barrier from the crowd and ran towards Kalkbrenner, appearing to swing arms at him in an attempt to incite an altercation. Security was quick to respond, forcibly removing the man from the DJ booth. Kalkbrenner was not injured in the incident.

Berlin native Kalkbrenner emerged in the techno scene in the 1990s, playing regularly at clubs like E-Werk and Planet. His first EP ‘Friedrichshain’ was released on BPitch Control Records in 1999, followed by his debut album ‘Superimpose’ in 2001.

He starred in the lead role in the 2008 feature film Berlin Calling, playing a German DJ named Ickarus who becomes institutionalised in hospital after excessive drug use. Kalkbrenner also composed the film’s soundtrack, which includes ‘Sky And Sand’, which went on to be one his most identifiable tracks.

In 2009, Kalkbrenner set up his own label, Paul Kalkbrenner Musik, and he continues to release his own records to this day.

Elrow Town 2025 was the biggest instalment of the festival to date, boasting eight stages of music, including sets from East End Dubs, De La Swing and Low Steppa.
