Liu was among more than 40 Olympic figure skaters who took part in the traditional exhibition gala on Saturday night (February 21), which both wraps up the program and celebrates the entire sport.

To mark the occasion, she delivered a routine soundtracked by an updated version of ‘Stateside’ featuring Larsson, which comes from PinkPantheress’ star-studded ‘Fancy Some More?’ remix album – the accompaniment to the Mercury-nominated ‘Fancy That’.

It comes after the American figure skater – who won America’s first gold medal in the Winter Olympics’ women’s free skating event since 2002 this year – expressed her love for PinkPantheress multiple times during this year’s games.

Earlier this week, a reporter showed Liu a video of PinkPantheress giving her a message, saying: “Alysa, lots of love, thank you so much for supporting me. I hope that you have a really good show. You are so inspiring and when I was younger I was obsessed with figure skaters so you are literally living my dream. Thank you so much for the love.”

Liu reacted by saying PinkPantheress is her favourite artist and that if she did the Olympic Gala she would skate to ‘Stateside’.

In other Olympic news, a metal singer from Italy won a skiing medal at this year’s winter games.

As for PinkPantheress, her song ‘Illegal’ was named NME‘s best song of 2025, where we noted: “Pink has made headlines for standing by her sub-three-minute hits, and with this adrenaline-fuelled thrillride, she’s once again proved that’s all the time she needs. Combining winking storytelling smarts, artful sampling, cheeky culture-defining quips (those opening lines!) and dance floor-filling beats, ‘Illegal’ showed us just how big she could go. A true feat.”

When asked by NME why she thought the track had resonated with so many, she said: “I don’t know if it’s anything too deep, other than having a [TikTok] trend for it helped and also the sample is quite timeless. I think the power of the beat itself is what people really like about it.”

The track was also nominated for a Grammy for Best Dance Pop Recording, ultimately losing out to Lady Gaga’s ‘Abracadabra’. She is also nominated for Artist of the Year and Best Dance Act at next month’s BRIT Awards.

She is heading out on the road this summer, playing festivals including All Points East with Lorde and Open’er in Poland.
