Watch David Krumholtz, Michael Shannon, Kevin Corrigan and Jon Wurster debut their new indie-rap band

David Krumholtz, Michael Shannon, Kevin Corrigan and Jon Wurster played their first show as a new indie-rap group in New York earlier this week. Check it out below.

The improvisational supergroup made their live debut on Thursday (December 26) at New York venue Berlin.

Dubbed Unidentified Aerial Phenomenon, the group comprises actors Krumholtz (The Santa Clause franchise, 10 Things I Hate About You, Oppenheimer), Shannon, (Revolutionary Road, Nocturnal Animals, Groundhog Day) and Corrigan (Goodfellas, Superbad, Pineapple Express) alongside Superchunk drummer Wurster, who’s also performed and recorded with the likes of Katy Perry, The New Pornographers and R.E.M.

The debut gig was announced by Wurster on Instagram, who referred to Unidentified Aerial Phenomenon as “an exciting musical concept” bringing “improvised #rocknrollweirdness”. He went on to invite an audience to “bathe in the hypnotic improv grooves” provided by himself, Corrigan, and Shannon, which Krumholtz freestyle rapped over.

Post-show, Krumholtz shared a clip alongside the caption: “I have no idea what I’m doing but I’m doing it.” Check it out, and other footage from the gig, below.

It’s not the first time the three actors have delved into music, with Shannon occasionally fronting an R.E.M. cover band, and Krumholtz having previously released music as Hemoglobin and BeenGod StillGod. Meanwhile, Corrigan’s own musical side project NY Grimm opened the Unidentified Aerial Phenomenon show.

Currently, it’s unclear if this is a one-off or the start of a larger project.

Elsewhere, in 2016 Shannon spoke to NME about the songs that have defined his life and told us about the first gig he ever went to. “I was living in Kentucky and went to the State Fair with my family and we were enjoying the silly rides, eating crappy food and whatever,” he said. “Then my mum said, ‘Hey, there’s a concert tonight and it’s only five bucks. We should go and see it because the guy who’s playing is pretty amazing.’ That guy was Bob Dylan.”
