The frontman’s rendition of the 1987 track follows the recent release of the goth band’s long-awaited album, ‘Songs Of A Lost World’, which, as of this Monday (November 4), has  outsold the rest of the current UK top 10 combined.

Robert Smith and co. released their 14th studio album last Friday (November 1), during a week which saw them play two shows at the iconic BBC Radio Theatre before performing the new record in full at London’s The Troxy on the day of its release.

Now, Sanchez has nodded to one of their classics as part of his ongoing covers series, which has seen him perform tracks by Smashing Pumpkins, The Smiths, Jimmy Eat World and more.

In the video uploaded yesterday (November 5), the ‘Welcome Home’ singer said he became aware of the song after hearing a “cover done by Dinosaur Jr.“.

In the caption, he explained: “They were skaters, so the reference to ‘tricks’ at the top of the song conjured up ideas of a smitten lover’s curiosity for executing kick-flips and rail slides.”

He mentioned he “didn’t know much of The Cure’s discography” outside of ‘Boy’s Don’t Cry,’ ‘Disintegration,’ and ‘Wish’, and that the albums that “glued those classics together” were a mystery to him until discovering ‘The Head on the Door’ record.

“It’s a strange but powerful relationship to have with a song when your introduction is someone else’s interpretation of it,” Sanchez concluded. “I think that’s why I chose ‘Just Like Heaven’ for this month’s cover.”

In other Coheed and Cambria news, Tool have announced a new destination festival set to take place in the Dominican Republic next year, and they will join Mastodon, Primus, Eagles Of Death Metal, CKY, King’s X and more in performing. All tickets can be purchased via the Tool In The Sand website.
