Last night (October 24), The Boss shared the stage with Harris and his close friend and former US President Barack Obama in Atlanta to pledge his support for Harris’ bid as the next President of the United States.
At the rally, Springsteen performed ‘The Promised Land’, ‘Land Of Hope And Dreams’ and ‘Dancing In The Dark’. Before launching into his acoustic performance, Springsteen hit out at opposing Presidential candidate Donald Trump.
“I want a president who reveres the Constitution, who does not threaten but wants to protect and guide our great democracy, who believes in the rule of law and the peaceful transfer of power, who will fight for a woman’s right to choose, and who wants to create a middle-class economy that will serve all our citizens,” he began.
Springsteen continued: “There is only one candidate in this election who holds those principles dear: Kamala Harris. She’s running to be the 47th president of the United States, Donald Trump is running to be an American tyrant. He does not understand this country, its history, or what it means to be deeply American. That’s why on November 5th, I’m casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz.”
Springsteen’s performance comes just days after The Boss publicly endorsed her on social media. He recently shared a video in which he recalled why he would be voting Democrat in this election: “Donald Trump is the most dangerous candidate for President in my lifetime. His disdain for the sanctity of our constitution, the sanctity of democracy, the sanctity of the rule of law, and the sanctity of the peaceful transfer of power should disqualify him from the office of President ever again.”
He continued: “On the other hand, Kamala Harris and Tim Walz are committed to a vision of this country that respects and includes everyone, regardless of class, religion, race, your political point of view, or sexual identity.”
Springsteen is next scheduled to appear at Harris’ Philadelphia rally on Monday (October 28).
Springsteen has long been political in his music, but first publicly endorsed a President in 2008 when he announced his support for Obama. Since then, he’s endorsed Hillary Clinton in 2016 and Joe Biden in 2020, going as far as to narrate his campaign ad and perform at his inauguration in early 2021.
Other famous faces that are backing Harris include Taylor Swift, Charli XCX, Chappell Roan, Beyoncé, Megan Thee Stallion, P!nk, Bon Iver, Quavo, Billie Eilish and Finneas.
For Eilish, the support also came as her song ‘When the Party’s Over’ featured in the Democrat’s Ad on reproductive care.
