Beyoncé is continuing to honor her roots on the Cowboy Carter tour. During last night’s performance at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles Beyoncé took a moment to pay tribute to her mom, Tina Knowles, who recently released a memoir titled Matriarch.
“Today is a big day because my mother, who worked so hard on her book, she has the number one book on the New York Times Best Seller list,” Beyoncé told the audience, standing on stage with her mom and her daughters, Blue Ivy and Rumi.
She then encouraged the crowd to join her in celebrating Knowles. “Everybody please say, ‘Congratulations Mama T,’” the singer urged. Everyone joined in and cheered while Rumi jumped around the stage in excitement.
Matriarch, released in April, chronicles Knowles’ story as a “precocious, if unruly, little girl” from Galveston, Texas, and her journey through “grief and tragedy, creative and romantic risks and turmoil, the nurturing of superstar offspring and of her own special gifts.”
Beyoncé, Knowles’ eldest daughter, shared a sweet message to her mother in support of the memoir ahead of its release. “Mama, I couldn’t be prouder,” wrote Beyoncé on social media. “My love for you goes beyond what I can say. You put your heart into this book. I’m happy for you to share some of the stories that shaped you into who you are. To know you is to love you. But please don’t spill too much Mama Tea.”
Beyoncé kicked off her highly-anticipated Cowboy Carter and the Rodeo Chitlin’ Circuit Tour earlier this week in Los Angeles. During the show, the pop star’s daughters, Blue Ivy and Rumi, both made appearances, which marked seven-year-old Rumi’s stage debut.
Last night, the singer notably mixed up her set list, adding in performances of “If I Were a Boy” and “Irreplaceable.” She also showcased “Single Ladies” and “Crazy in Love.”

Rolling Stone‘s Tomás Mier described the Cowboy Carter tour as a “Beyoncé-caliber stadium show devoid of genre limitations, and anchored by the stunning choreography of her more than 24 backup dancers.”
“The three hours of Beyoncé felt nonstop as she ran through almost the entirety of Cowboy Carter during the set,” the review noted. “Everything from the show seemed calculated and measured to perfection, leaving little space for Beyoncé to break from the plan. It was a theatrical spectacle that, once again, put Bey in a league of her own.
