Violet Grohl Drops Debut Solo Tracks ‘Thum’ and ‘Applefish’

“I’m beyond excited to finally share a little bit of what I’ve been working on over the last year,” the singer and eldest daughter of Dave Grohl says

Violet Grohl has released her debut original solo tracks, “Thum” and “Applefish.” The songs are available for download via Bandcamp.

“I’m beyond excited to finally share a little bit of what i’ve been working on over the last year,” the singer and eldest daughter of Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl wrote on Instagram. “I made these tracks with the most badass group of musicians, so happy they’re finally yours:)”

The songs are available as a digital download, while the 7-inch vinyl of “Thum” b/w “Applefish” is currently sold out. The driving “Thum,” which is available for streaming, is a two-minute blast about struggling to break a bad habit.

“Self help me/Self help myself/Chew my bitter fingers,” she sings on the catchy chorus. “Can’t help me/Can’t help myself/Buy it by the liter.”

In 2021, Grohl released a cover of X’s “Nausea” made alongside her dad Dave, which the duo later performed live on Jimmy Kimmel, joined by Krist Novoselic, Dave Lombardo, and Greg Kurstin.

She’s also performed numerous times on the road with the Foo Fighters, including joining them during their tribute concerts for late drummer Taylor Hawkins in 2022, and in 2023, she duetted with her dad on “Show Me How.”

Earlier this year, she joined the surviving members of Nirvana — Dave, Novoselic, and Pat Smear — for a surprise reunion during the Fire Aid benefit concert in Los Angeles.
