UFC mistake Terence Crawford for Kendrick Lamar at Sphere Las Vegas

Boxing world champion Terence Crawford was wrongly labelled as Kendrick Lamar during a TV broadcast of UFC 306 last night (September 14).

Crawford was sitting cageside for UFC 306 at The Sphere in Las Vegas. The event marked the first combat sports event to take place at the US$2.3billion arena – which has hosted residencies with U2, Phish, and Dead & Company.

However, when the camera panned to Crawford, fans noticed that he was wrongly labelled as rapper Lamar.

Viewers quickly reacted on social media, with former UFC champion Aljamain Sterling among the first to comment writing on Twitter/X: “Terance Crawford evolved into Kendrick Lamar tonight.”

Crawford took to his Instagram story to respond, sharing a screencap of the error and tagging Lamar along with two laughing emojis. He soundtracked the post with Lamar’s song ‘Euphoria’ – a six-minute-long diss track against Drake that references Crawford. The song includes the line: “He’s Terrence Thornton, I’m Terence Crawford, yeah, I’m whoopin’ feet.”

The track isn’t the first crossover between Crawford and the hip-hop world. Last year, Eminem walked the boxer to the ring for his welterweight title fight against Errol Spence JR. in Las Vegas. Crawford had chosen ‘Lose Yourself’ as his walk-on music.

In other news, last week it was announced that Lamar would be headlining the 2025 NFL Super Bowl LIX Halftime show – which will be held at the Caesar Superdome in New Orleans next year on February 9, marking the 11th time the major sporting event will be staged in the Big Easy.

There are rumours that Oasis will be joining Lamar on stage, following a leaked image of an alleged setlist for the event which includes two of the rapper’s biggest hits ‘Alright’ and ‘Humble’ as well as tracks from London indie band Kero Kero Bonito. The encore sees Oasis and Kero Kero Bonito allegedly join Lamar in a performance of the Mancunian’s track ‘Rock & Roll Star’.

Liam Gallagher has since responded after a fan on Twitter/X asked him: “Rasta, are you going to sing at the super bowl?,” to which Liam replied: “How’s that leaked ffs.” Lamar has not addressed of the leaked setlist is real and neither have Kero Kero Bonito.

Meanwhile, Lil Wayne opened up about not being asked to perform at the major sporting event which is taking place in his hometown.
