U2 have shared Bono and The Edge‘s full live acoustic performance from their Woody Guthrie Prize show – listen to it below.
The annual prize is awarded by the Woody Guthrie Center and is presented to an artist who reflects the spirit of the late folk icon by proving themselves to be “a champion for the voiceless with an understanding of how a platform can be used to shine a light on our world, showing us what needs to be fixed and how to fix it.”
U2 were honoured with the prize in October at a ceremony in Cain’s Ballroom in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where Bono and The Edge performed the band’s classics ‘One’, ‘Sunday Bloody Sunday‘, and ‘Running To Stand Still’ along with a cover of Woody Guthrie’s song, ‘Jesus Christ’.
Other tracks they played included ‘Mothers Of The Disappeared’, and ‘Pride (In the Name of Love)’.
Now, the band have shared the audio from the full concert, which you can listen to below.
In 2023, the prize was given to Pussy Riot, and in 2021, it was awarded to Bruce Springsteen. Other previous winners include Mavis Staples, Kris Kristofferson, Tom Morello, Chuck D and Joan Baez.
Elsewhere, Bono joined Imelda May for a version of Darlene Love’s ‘Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)’ at a Dublin busking gig on Christmas Eve.
Hundreds of people gathered outside the Gaiety Theatre in Dublin city centre for the event, which also saw performances from The Riptide Movement, Danny O’Reilly from The Coronas and Shobsy, while the night culminated with a performance of The Pogues and Kirsty MacColl’s ‘Fairytale Of New York’, with May wishing Shane MacGowan a “happy birthday for tomorrow”.
Previous years have seen Bono play ‘The Joshua Tree’ classic ‘Running To Stand Still’, Shane MacGowan perform ‘Dirty Old Town’, and Hozier play his hit ‘Take Me To Church’.
Meanwhile, the U2 frontman recently said that he is “ready for the future” with U2, and the band have “25 great songs for a new album“.
