Twisted Sister have cancelled their 50th anniversary tour after frontman Dee Snider resigned due to health issues.
The singer, now aged 70, shared a statement confirming that he would be leaving the line-up with immediate effect due to a “series of challenges”. Due to the move, the band have now said that they are forced to cancel the tour they had planned, designed to mark their 50th year together.
“Due to the sudden and unexpected resignation of Twisted Sister’s lead singer Dee Snider brought on by a series of health challenges, the band has been forced to cancel all shows scheduled, beginning April 25th in Sao Paolo Brazil and continuing through the summer,” their update read.
They added that the future of the band “will be determined in the next several weeks”, and was signed off by founding members Eddie Ojeda and Jay Jay French.
Twisted Sister also took to their official website to share more insight into the struggles facing Snider, which include degenerative arthritis, which has led to him undergoing multiple procedures in the past.
“A lifetime of legendarily aggressive performing has taken its toll on Dee Snider’s body and soul. Unbeknownst to the public (until now) Snider suffers from degenerative arthritis and has had several surgeries over the years just to keep going, able to only perform a few songs at a time in pain,” that update read, adding that the singer “can no longer push the boundaries of rock ‘n’ roll fury like he has done for decades.”
More information about the cancelled tour dates and the future of the band is expected to be shared in coming weeks.
Speaking about his decision to leave the band, Snider shared a statement that read: “I don’t know of any other way to rock. The idea of slowing down is unacceptable to me. I’d rather walk away than be a shadow of my former self.”
The glam-rock icons retired from touring in 2016, but announced that they would be returning for a world tour last September. They first hinted at it on social media, with the frontman teasing something for their upcoming 50th anniversary.
“If you’re lucky enough to be in a band that people still want to see after 50 years(!), how can you not answer the call? In 2026, Twisted Fucking Sister will hit stages around the world because WE STILL WANNA ROCK!!” he wrote at the time.
The tour included a headline slot at the Steelhouse Festival between July 24-26 in 2026 at Hafod-y-Dafal Farm, Aberbeeg, Ebbw Vale, which would have been their first stop in the UK since they performed at Bloodstock in 2016.
