Twenty One Pilots Tease ‘Breach’ Album With Eclectic Song ‘The Contract’

Twenty One Pilots ping-pong between pop, rap, emo, and drumline practice on their new single, “The Contract,” changing styles about every 21 seconds. The song and its total sensory assault will feature on the group’s upcoming album, Breach, due out in September.

The video features a cult of red-eyed goons staring at them, as frontman Tyler Joseph tries out every vocal style that comes to mind and drummer Josh Dun keeps the beat. The clip ends with a portentous passing of a uniform, echoed on Breach’s cover. The album picks up where the narrative from last year’s Clancy left off, and Breach is set to conclude the saga the band has been telling since they released Blurryface a decade ago.

The group will kick off a North American tour in support of the album in September. Where the last run of gigs, which ended half a year ago, was called the Clancy World Tour, this tour connects the two with the title, the Clancy Tour: Breach.

Tickets for the tour go on sale to the public at 10 a.m. local time on June 20. Presales begin June 15. Full details are on the band’s website.

The announcement comes about a month after the group got some good news: They were able to recover a drum a fan took at the conclusion of their concert in Manchester, England. Joseph and Dun had taken to going into the audience to play drums on the song “Trees” as confetti comes from the ceiling; but instead of taking confetti, a fan had taken one of the drums. But other fans who served as witnesses banded together and collected enough info that the drum was able to make it back to the band. And now they can use it, ostensibly, on their upcoming tour.
